The Aspen company was founded in 1988 on the Aspen lake coast north of Gothenburg in Sweden. Roland Elmäng came up with the idea of producing better fuel for chain saws when he read an article in the Swedish newspaper Skogen about the consequences suffered by forest workers by exposure to exhaust gases from chainsaws and forest mowers. The introduction of alkylate gasoline resulted in a dramatically improved working environment for Swedish forest workers. Nowadays, Aspen alkylate gasoline is used for many more applications and is also been available in other countries.

Lantmännen Aspen AB is a producer of Aspen and is located in Hindas, Sweden. Aspen is represented in many European countries and Canada and is thus the world leader in alkylate gsoline. In the Benelux, Aspen is represented by GVG Oliehandel BV. In all countries, the same mission is being pursued: developing, marketing and distributing fuels with unique benefits, which reduce the negative effects on human, machine and environment.
